About
I fix the websites people are afraid to touch.
I’m Stacey Dowswell. I build, rescue and maintain websites from Hamilton, Ontario — for clients wherever they are.
I spent the better part of twenty years learning this trade — a good chunk of it inside large organisations, working on systems far bigger and more tangled than any one small business will ever run. It taught me how digital things are actually built: inherited from whoever came before, half-documented, patched under deadline, and held together by knowledge that walks out the door when someone leaves.
That’s not a complaint — it’s the whole point. The problems I’m best at are the ones that come from that reality. A site nobody can log into. A platform that quietly owns your domain. A migration everyone’s scared to attempt because the last one lost half the traffic. I’ve spent years in exactly that kind of mess, and I got tired of it being solved slowly, expensively, and with the client kept deliberately in the dark.
So Dowswell Digital is deliberately narrow. I’m not chasing the “I need five pages and a contact form” job — a template does that fine and you shouldn’t pay me for it. I’m here for the moment a business outgrows the easy tools, or gets stuck inside one, and needs someone who can open the box, explain what’s in it, and hand it back working and genuinely theirs.
Why that makes me good at this
The background maps straight onto the work.
Two decades of untangling other people’s systems
A long stretch inside big organisations means I’ve seen how sites really get built, inherited, half-migrated and quietly broken. That’s exactly the mess a rescue or migration is — so it’s the mess I’m fastest in.
I open the black box instead of guarding it
A lot of this industry runs on keeping clients slightly in the dark so they can’t leave. I do the opposite: I explain what’s happening, hand you the keys, and make sure the site ends up in your name, not mine.
Technical enough to fix it, human enough to explain it
I can get into the server, the DNS and the code — and then tell you what I found in language that doesn’t require you to be technical. No talking down, no jargon smokescreen.
If your site is stuck, that’s the conversation I want.
Tell me what’s going on and I’ll give you a straight read on whether I can help — and what it’d take — before you commit to anything.
